Christy Essien-Igbokwe resurrects in new songs




Nigeria’s Lady of Songs; Christy Essien Igokwe who died few years ago resurrected last Sunday, at the Intercontinental Hotels, Lagos, when her family launched her 11th and final album, in a manner that relived memories of her lifetime.
Present at the event, were the legends in the nation’s entertainment industry. Also, Governor Raji Fashola of Lagos State and his Akwa-Ibom State counterpart sent representatives. Special Guests at the event included Onyeka Onwenu, Sonny Irabor, Timi Dakolo, Niyola, Yemi Alade among others.

In her opening speech, Onyeka Onwenu described late Christy as “an amazing woman, a colleague and a friend. Make no mistake, we were competitiors but it brought out the best in us.”

The event had dance performances to songs of the late legend and stage performances of one of her most popular works on TV – New Masquerade by PAWS. A fashion show showcasing clothes worn by the Late Lady of Songs on stage was part of the activities for the night as well musical performances by Timi Dakolo, Yemi Alade, Victor Essien (Sleeky) and The Soul Train band.

Before her death, the singer of the classic ‘Seun rere’ hoped to release her album and had recorded the songs – a dream her children and family are now bringing to life alongside her greatest hits. The new album ‘All of a Sudden” was launched along with her greatest hits the Christy Essien Igbokwe Memorial Foundation; thus celebrating her art, her style and her heart.
